Church health check tool 10 PRESENCE VISION ROOTS FINANCE IMPACT PARTNERSHIP ADAPTABILITY OWNERSHIP LEADERSHIP HEART0

Ten core factors for sustainable community mission. Presence > Level of connectivity to the local community Impact > Extent of social action work developed by the church to serve the local community Partnership > Extent of church’s connection to other community services or projects Heart > Size of congregation and committed membership Ownership > Degree of involvement of the membership in mission Leadership > Robust and accountable leadership team Roots > Integrated theology and practice Adaptability > Responsiveness to evaluation and willingness to accept change Finance > Ability to fund core costs and be sustainable Vision > Agreed vision and realistic strategy for mission to the local community

Using the tool The Community Mission team works with churches to ensure their health is wide-ranging and continually developed in each of the 10 core areas. We recognise that no church begins with a 0 in any of the areas and advise that those using this tool are open about their current situation. The hope with this tool is to initially assess a baseline on which change and progress (or deterioration) can be identified and measured. As you use the tool consider what either end of the 10 point scale could and should look like in your context. Don’t compare yourselves with an unrealistic comparison but do also try and have your imagination stretched. This is a tool that involves a healthy integration of prayerful reflection and strategic action planning. If you need any help, please phone the team on or
