Environmental Deployment Workshop 23 March 2010 Alex Efimov, Environmental Monitoring Theme Leader, Sensors & Instrumentation KTN

Underpinning Environmental Monitoring Environmental Deployment offers a great opportunity for Knowledge Exchange and collaboration with industry!

Environmental Deployment Roadmap The roadmap will help NERC: to identify priority areas for action and research, as part of its ongoing Technology Theme programme and Knowledge Exchange activities to maximise benefits from the technology development for the broader communities including the UK government and industry

Environmental Deployment Scope Markets Products / Services Technologies R&D Programmes Resources Industrial funding Governmental grants (TSB, Defra and etc.) Research grants NERC Technology Theme Environmental Deployment Scope? Priorities? Synergies? Time Where are we now? Where do we want to be? 5 years10 years Scoping Workshop

Objectives for the Workshop 1 Determine which parts of the Environmental Monitoring should be included within the scope of the Environmental Deployment State of the art and a wish list (10 years ahead) Collect inputs from different communities regarding: –Technology development priorities –Applications –Market drivers Build an outline for the roadmap Networking and cross-fertilisation of ideas

Research and Analysis The Scoping Workshop should provide a foundation for the desk based research and analysis conducted by SIKTN A number of business cases prepared by ESKTN will be investigated and assessed against the scope of the roadmap Links to technology development activities at EPSRC, STFC and BBSRC will be explored The roadmap will be mapped to NERC Theme Actions and strategy

Environmental Deployment Roadmap Markets Products / Services Technologies R&D Programmes Resources Time 5 years10 years Additional resources needed for success NERC Technology Theme and other R&D programmes related to environmental deployment Products and services developed in response to trends & drivers (type, form, function, performance, barriers, enablers, issues, risks, etc.) Technologies required to udnerpin product development External trends and drivers that influence environmental deployment products and services

Objectives for the Workshop 2 Consider the draft roadmapping document Review in detail identified technologies Propose conclusions and recommendations that will arise from the roadmapping exercise Provide a networking opportunity for industry and academics

Thank you!
