Year 9 website design Aim of this module To understand what makes a good website To understand how to use FrontPage to create a website.

Getting started Before you start to make your website you need to think about three very important things. Content Appearance Navigation

Content What will the content of your website be? In other words, what will your site be about? E.g. Sport, films, music, etc.    You can make your site about whatever you like, but remember, your site will be added to the school website. So it must not be offensive to others in any way, e.g. sexist, racist, ageist, etc. and it must not contain any inappropriate material, either in writing, pictures or sound.

Content Write a paragraph about the content of your website. Try to include as much detail as possible.

Appearance How do you want your website to look? Do you want the same title on every page? the same side-bar on every page? to include pictures on your website? What colours will you use for the fonts and background?

Appearance Write a paragraph about the appearance of your website. Try to include as much detail as possible. Include diagrams to make your ideas clear.

Navigation How will people move around the pages on your site? There are two main ways of organising your website. Here is an example of a website which has four main areas: Entertainment Films Television Cartoons

Navigation Linear In this structure all the areas have to be visited in order. This type of structure isn’t used very often. Why do you think that is?

Navigation Spider web In this structure, all the main areas can be reached from the home page. This is the most common type of structure used for websites. Why do you think that is?

Navigation Write a paragraph about how people move around your website. Try to include as much detail as possible. Include a diagram to make your ideas clear.
