Ice Breaker PASSWORD! The goal of this game is that one partner will be facing the board and another the back of the classroom. The partner facing the board will have to give clues to their partner which help them to guess the word on the board. They are not allowed to use the word or parts of the word in their clues. The other partner will make guesses based on the clues. Once all five words have been guessed the team will sit down and wait for the remaining teams.

Guess the Word! Get ready to give the clues… Agenda School Ruler Pencil Calculator

Student A Student B Student C Student D If Mario eats two cups of pretzels every night while he watches TV, how many cups will he eat in one week? Student A Mario eats 14 cups of pretzels each week. Student B 14 Student C 14 Cups Student D I know Mario eats two cups of pretzels each night. To solve this problem I will have to find how many pretzels he eats in one week by multiplying 2 and 7. When I do I get 14. The answer is 14 cups of pretzels each week.

Writing in Math Being able to do math is not enough on its own. Many jobs require math skills AND writing skills. When given a written response question the answers must be written out clearly so that another student can read your answer and understand your methods.

Writing Outline When answering math in written response form use the following outline I know . To solve this problem I . When I do . The answer is .

Let’s Practice Example #1 The nature museum is open seven days a week. Every day 105 people come to see the exhibits. How many people come to the museum in one week? Circle the numbers Underline the question. Box any math action words. (Hints to what we have to do) Evaluate: Think about the steps you will use to solve. Solve AND check (Does the answer make sense?)

I’ll write out a response to this one… The nature museum is open seven days a week. Every day 105 people come to see the exhibits. How many people come to the museum in one week? I know that the museum is open seven days a week and 105 people visit each day. To solve this problem I will add 105 seven times to find out how many people go to the museum in one week. When I do I get 735. My answer is 735 people visit the museum in one week.

Let’s try one together… Kim’s new bike costs twice as much as Lauren’s. If Lauren’s bike costs $125, how much did Kim’s bike cost? First CUBES Second find an answer Third write up a written response. Complete the sentences below I know To solve this problem I will When I do The answer is

As a group, you try!! Amy’s dogs eat 4 pounds of food each day. How much food does she need to buy to last one week. I know To solve this problem I will When I do The answer is
