God Is Our Abundance MY CUP RUNS OVER An Abundance That Is Personal- My An Abundance That Is Participatory- Cup An Abundance That Is Plenteous- Runs Over

An Abundance That Is Personal The writer David did not say, Everyones cup runs over. That would not be true because not everyone looks to God in order to receive the fullness of His blessings. The writer David also did not say, Every- one elses cup runs over. To say that would in essence be denying the good God had done for him personally.

An Abundance That Is Personal David did say, My cup runs over. In so doing, he was acknowledging in a personal way all the good God had done for him in his life. Is it important that we personally acknowledge the abundance God has given us? –Yes, it is important because it helps us to fully appreciate in our own heart who God is and how much He means to us! –Yes, it is important because it helps us to fully appreciate in our own heart how good God is to us. –Yes, it is important because it helps us to fully appreciate in our own heart how good we have it.

An Abundance That Is Participatory The word cup has several different meanings as it is used in Scripture: –The word cup can simply be a literal utensil. (Exodus 37:16) –The word cup can be a representation of Gods wrath. (Psalm 11:5,6; Isaiah 51:17; Revelation 14:10; 16:19) –The word cup can be a representation of Jesus suffering. (Mark 14:36; John 18:11) –The word cup can be a representation of a particular lifestyle. (I Corinthians 10:21)

An Abundance That Is Participatory The word cup as it is used in our text today, however, is a representation of ones life. (Psalm 16:5) In essence, the writer David is stating that his life was overflowing because of the good things that God had provided him. Involved in this process is the principle that one must be an active participant in life in order to receive Gods blessings. In other words, abundance does not come to those who are passive but rather it comes to those who are willing to be faithful and obedient!

An Abundance That Is Plenteous There should never be a worry on our part about ever having to answer the question of whether we see our cup as being half full or half empty because with God our cup is always OVERFLOWING! Sadly, as Christians we dont always see this truth. Because we do not perceive things correctly, we dont truly appreciate just how much God has done for us, continues to do for us, and will always do for us!

An Abundance That Is Plenteous What we need to do is to take inventory as to the wonderful ways in which God provides us with abundant blessings. If we will do this, we will see that our cup does in fact run over! Our cup runs over because God has provided us with: –Salvation (Psalm 116:12-14) –Satisfaction(Luke 1:53) –Happiness (Acts 14:17) –Peace and Hope (Romans 15:13) –The Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18) –Answered Prayer (Ephesians 3:20,21) –Grace (II Corinthians 9:8)
