Burn baby burn How Much Energy is there in Food? By : Madison Matherne

Introduction We always talk about energy and eating a good breakfast to have fuel for our brains. I want to test how much energy is actually in my food. The energy content of food has lead to numerous studies of body mass and weight loss techniques. We always talk about energy and eating a good breakfast to have fuel for our brains. Hypothesis My hypothesis is if the bar with the higher sugar count will have a higher amount of energy? My hypothesis is if the bar with the higher sugar count will have a higher amount of energy?

Variables : IV: The Energy / sugar in each Bar. Levels Trials Nature Valley: Peanut Butter : Nature Valley: Oats N Honey Granola Bar Protein Meal Bar : Chocolate Peanut Butter Myoplex: Chocolate Peanut Butter DV: The Energy Changing in each bar.

Materials Materials: Materials: Boiling tubes Boiling tubes Clamp stand Clamp stand Lighter (match) Lighter (match) Measuring Cylinder Measuring Cylinder Mounted needle Mounted needle Tongs/forceps Tongs/forceps Thermometer Thermometer Eye protection Eye protection And WATER (H20) And WATER (H20)

The Five Trials :

When the Burning Begins!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graph #1 : Bar #1 – Nature Valley : Peanut Butter Bar #1 – Nature Valley : Peanut Butter Bar #2 – Nature Valley: Oats N Honey Bar #2 – Nature Valley: Oats N Honey Bar #3 – Granola Bar Bar #3 – Granola Bar Bar #4 – Protein Meal Bar: Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar #4 – Protein Meal Bar: Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar #5 – Myoplex: Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar #5 – Myoplex: Chocolate Peanut Butter

Graphs #2 : Nature Valley : Peanut Butter Nature Valley: Oats N Honey Granola Bar: Protein Meal Bar: Chocolate Peanut Butter Myoplex Chocloate Peanut Butter: 36 o o = 35 o – 27.5 = 28 o – 27.5 o = 34 o – 27.5 o = 8.5 o 7.5 o 0.5 o 6.5 o

Conclusion: The bar with the higher sugar count proved to be greater in the amount of energy in it! As you look at the chart you can see what I mean.
