Environmental Issues to update: Fly Tipping Dog Fouling

Why Fly tipping? 2010/ incidents (60 per month) 2011/ incidents (86 per month) 2012/ incidents (96 per month) 2013/ incidents (Apr-Sept) Using figures from Defra on average it could cost £56 per incident to clear So far we have spent over £186,648

Campaign Plan Aim: To reduce fly tipping incidents To reduce Street Cleansing costs To increase legal disposal of waste To increase Duty of Care awareness How? Prevention using stop & search with Police Duty of Care visits Calendar leaflet drop to 40,000 homes Road shows at DIY outlets Enforcement using cameras at hotspot areas Farm Watch Signage

How can you help? Take our message back to your part of the District Look out for unlicensed scrap metal operators (licence should be displayed in the front screen of the vehicle) Help the Enforcement Team by reporting vehicle details of suspicious activity

And Dog Fouling? What we have done so far……… Campaigns Education in schools Enforcement Signage Stencilling Letters Patrols

New initiative Sept 2013 Stencilling kit to be provided to Parish Councils: A pack of equipment to enable Parish Councils to be pro-active regarding dog fouling complaints. It contains Metal Stencil 1 tin of spray paint 1 paint remover PPE Full instructions

What Does This Mean? Parish Councils are empowered to take action Quicker response times Better local information Who has signed up? Ashby Town Council Belton Parish Council Castle Donington Parish Council Measham Parish Council Osgathorpe Parish Council Hugglescote Parish Council Whitwick Parish Council

Future plans Provide signage details and supplier Provide cigarette litter stencil (for bus stops) Provide letter template (for dog fouling issues) Provide dog fouling stencil pack to school caretakers (on request) Partnership working with Farmers to tackle dog fouling on farmland

How to report an environmental crime…… Telephone Customer Service Centre With the following……. Date, time and type of incident. Address/location of incident. Description of offender. If applicable…….. Details of vehicle, registration, make, model and colour. Type/size and colour of dog.
