“An occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge” PowerPoint by: Amanda Rogers & Devin Harris

Time Period Time Period- The story is reflective of the time period, because it was written around the time of the civil war, and it involves soldiers from the civil war. The main character Peyton Farquhar is tricked by a federal scout.

Literary Elements There is irony within this story because we find out that the soldier is actually a federal scout, but Peyton doesn’t and is tricked by him, which eventually leads to his death. This story contains realism due to it’s sober and somber tone. Even whenever Peyton is hanged, the mood and tone is mild. The only thing that could possibly corrupt this being under the category of realism is the fact that the escape is imaginary.

Examples When we find out the solider is actually federal scout (irony) When the Peyton is hanged on then bridge (tone)
