Career Clusters/Pathways Career Clusters represent a grouping of occupations according to common knowledge and skills for the purpose of organizing educational programs and curricula Career Pathways are coherent, articulated sequences of rigorous academic and career/technical courses, usually beginning in the 9th grade and leads to some type of credential including a baccalaureate degree or more. Career Development Model OCCUPATION Elementary Teacher $54,200 2012 Average Salary/1,810 PERKINS/ “high-skilled, high-wage, high-demand” PATHWAY Teaching as a Profession Cluster Education & Training Represents a Narrowing Process Elementary to Middle to High School and beyond This graphic model represents the Cluster concept whereby students begin to define and re-define career-related choices and selections from a broad CLUSTER to a PATHWAY, to a more SPECIFIC OCCUPATION and advocates appropriate levels of postsecondary education based on the student choices. This model uses the Education & Training CLUSTER , narrowed to the PATHWAY, Teaching as a Profession, then further narrowed to a specific OCCUPATION, Registered Nurse which requires an Associate Degree at a USG school or techncial college. Other occupations in that pathway might include medical assistant, EMT, pharmacy technician, respiratory therapist just to name a few.
