NOTES: FIND POLYNOMIALS OF LEAST DEGREE AND K October 23 rd, 2012

Example 1: Write the polynomial equation of least degree with the following roots: -2, 1, -5 1)Change the sign and write them as factors 2)Multiply 2 together 3) Multiply the new equation by the 3 rd factor

Example 2: Write the polynomial equation of least degree with the following roots: -4, 3i  Must account for both positive and negative versions of the imaginary number

Use Synthetic Division! -You know the remainder should = 0 - Work inward towards the k 2 -k R -k + 8 = 1 Solve k = 7 4

1 2 -k k + 24 = 4 Solve k = 20

Assignment: Complete Review and come to the next class ready with questions
