FASHION 1830S-1850S ROMANTIC ERA FASHION.  Fashion post Neo-classical age began to focus more on the feminine, fragile, doll-like quality of women. The whale-bone corset emphasizes the bust and layers of petticoats begins to provide a bell affect to the skirts (later hoop added 1860s). Beautiful colors, designs combined with lace to further over exaggerate the female figure. Women are to be protected and the heavy skirts and feminine trimmings confirms this notion. Also the covering of all part parts in the era in daytime focuses on modesty and proper behavior. Fashions in this period harken back to the 1770s-1780s and even the hairstyles (curls in 1830s-40s) and balloon/bell sleeves reflect 17 th and Renaissance connections. The textile industry booms as women’s fashion desires more and more fabric and lace!
