What is Work? In Science, Work is accomplished when a force is moved over a distance. Work. –Lifting books, pushing a box 2 feet, pulling a wagon. Not Work. –Holding books, pushing a box without it moving, walking with a bin.

Calculating Work Work = Force X Distance –Joules = Newton x Meters You want to move a 20N box 10 meters. How much work is done? 20 X 10 = 200 J or N-M

Try These 1. How much work if you move 12,000N 2 meters? –12,000 x 2 = 24,000 joules How much work to move a 2N book 5 meters? –2 x 5 = 10 joules of work
