What is our Purpose? We have a dual purpose: o Encouraging Reading and Literacy o Introducing Information Literacy Skills The mission of the school library media center program in the Los Gatos Union School District is to create a learning center for each school that teaches students how to become lifelong learners and users of information and media.

How will we accomplish this? Identify Library Skills and Information Literacy Skills to be Taught by Grade Level (2006) Develop a District Library Plan (2008) o Our mission statement defines our purpose o Identify six goals and strategies for implementing them

How will our libraries operate? Develop district policies for library tasks (2009) o Selection of materials o Weeding materials o Challenged materials Adoption of District Library Plan and Policies by Board of Trustees (2009)

So What is Next? Continue with quarterly library staff meetings Participate in training opportunities Develop a list of resources for use by librarians Expand opportunities for creating 21 st century libraries

Thank You!
