E COLI A DISEASE THAT HAS AFFECTED MANY WORLD WIDE BY: Kiana Buzza and Marwan Markad

Escherichia coli or commonly known as E coli, is a disease that spreads through food around the world. E Coli is a bacterium that is usually found in the lower intestines of humans and also warm-blooded animals. WHAT IS E COLI

Where and how you get E COLI You can get the E. coli disease by eating or drinking the following. -unpasteurized milk and dairy products -untreated water -food or beverages contaminated by E. coli -raw or under cooked meat -contaminated raw fruits and vegetables, including sprouts

PREVENTATION OF ILLNESS   E. coli is like many bacteria's and you are not able to see, smell or taste it and you are able to kill it by cooking food properly.  -wash your hands before and after eating food and also wash your hands after contact with animals. Especially at farms, petting zoos and fairs -keep raw food away from other food while shopping, storing, preparing and serving foods.  -use a food thermometer to check the internal temperature of your food.   -at a restaurant always order your hamburgers well done.

SYMPTOMS AND DURATION OF E COLI A typical infection with E. coli begins with severe stomach cramps and watery diarrhea that often turns bloody within a few days.  Other symptoms are -vomiting -nausea -headaches -little or no fever   The infection can cause damage to the kidney's and anemia.  This infection could last up to 5-10 days, But most people fully recover in about a week.

STATISTICS Here are facts about the number of deaths that have been taking place because of E Coli in Europe and, where it has been spread ing the U.S.A.
