Introducing EX-

Upon conducting research on my target audience I discovered that thrillers were in the top three most popular film genres and since they are my preferred genre to watch, I decided that I would attempt to make a teaser trailer for a thriller. Some conventions I aim to include in order to fulfil this genre are: Suspense Tense music A twist An antagonist A protagonist Sinister lighting Paranoia Deciding on a Genre

Deciding on a Plot Having begun work on my original plot, I soon decided I was unhappy with the direction it was headed and I felt like I was coming to a dead end. I felt uninspired and unmotivated to continue and ultimately took the decision to go back to the drawing-board and brainstorm ideas once more. The plot I settled on is as follows:

Plot Synopsis A couple split after a long-term relationship and she initially appears to take it well, however, when she sees him with his new partner, jealous feelings start to impose and she begins to plot the ruination of their relationship. At first it’s trivial, such as sending flirtatious messages to make his new girlfriend believe he is cheating on her but as the plot progress, her actions start to take a more sinister turn as she stalks the couple and ultimately attempts to poison the new girlfriend.

Character Profiles The ex-girlfriend Samantha 19 Works in a café where most of the action takes place Dark hair Dark clothes Dark eye make-up (evil glare) Acts shifty and fidgety Shot in poorly lit areas Speaks in a low, harsh voice The boyfriend Nathan 20 Ordinary looking Wears jeans and t-shirts Mad-dark hair Friendly face Confident Leader Tactile – into public displays of affection The new-girlfriend Ella 18 Blonde Pretty Bright complexion Innocent-looking Comes across shy Soft-spoken Wears pastel colours Girly giggle In strong contrast to the ex-girlfriend

Settings I chose my settings very carefully and at times had to alter the story around the settings that would be available to me. It is very important to keep filming in mind throughout the entire process as you need to ensure that everything you envisage will be possible when it comes to shooting. The three main area where I will be shooting the footage for my trailer are as follows: The mall Armagh (An area of lawn with a walkway around the perimeter with a distance of about one mile. A café – Where I work In a car on a country road

Important Moments in the Film The break-up – This will be very brief and may even not be shown in the trailer but it may have to be alluded to in some form in order to set the scene Samantha sees the new couple together – They will be in the café where she works at ‘their’ table, being affectionate and laughing with each other Samantha begins to plot and calculate Messages are sent and read by Ella The couple are paranoid that they are being watched – This scene is likely to take place on the mall where Samantha watches the couple walk hand-in- hand Couple return to the café – Samantha smiles and takes there order and is then shown stirring a powder into one of their cups. This will be a dramatic ending for the trailer.

Inspiration Revenge has been a common feature in plays and films for centuries. It is a strong desire fuelled by envy and passion that rarely ends in laughter. I am studying Shakespeare’s Othello for my A-level English Literature exam, a play that is based on jealously and revenge and ends in murder. More specifically, it was a jealously that stemmed from deep love and when he thinks that love was betrayed, Othello is driven to murder his lover. And so this play contributed greatly to the theme of my film. The dramatic nature of the plot would allow me to create massive impact in the short time I have to portray it in the teaser trailer. Real life experiences have also inspired my plot as I have heard countless stories of what jealous ex-partners are willing to do in order to punish their ex-lovers for leaving or cheating on them. Although real life situations don’t always end so dramatically, at least a lot of people will be able to associate with the storyline.
