Tania G. Longoria EDTC

We live in a technology area in which our children are surrounded by it. We have to become technology oriented because our students are interested and are using technology in their everyday life. We, as teachers, need to be available and knowledgeable to help them find new ways to learn.

How can the training be effective and relevant? In depth trainings Hands-on training Connections to student learning Relevance to teaching strategies Follow-up sessions

1. Teach and have students use web 2.0 tools 2. Make staff development for teachers so they can teach and expose their students to web 2.0 tools. 3. Have technical support and be available to any staff with questions. 4. The best thing will be to have a group of support not only one teacher per campus to give the trainings and support 5. Have a budget designated only for technology.

1. Inform District of useful online websites that teachers need to have access to. 2. Provide trainings during school hours (during planning), create online tutorials, after school, and on weekends. 3. MTT provides support throughout the beginning, middle, and end stage of each training session (Every 6 weeks). 4. Make a schedule with trainings available every 6 weeks. 5. Discuss with administration the importance of having Technology Staff Development trainings and how often they should be added to school calendar.

How to make it relevant for students: 1. Daily exposure to technology in lessons. 2. Teach a variety of technology tools. 3. Technology tools will become learning tools. 4. Project-based learning 5. Students will create projects using technology with a web 2.0 tool least once every six weeks. 6. As an extension the students will present them.

Technical Assistance and Support 1. Face to face assistance. 2. Online MTT created tutorials. 3. Online You Tube tutorials. 4. Technology enhanced lesson ideas on campus tech. wiki. 5. Resources and links available on campus tech. wiki. Administrative Support: 1. Keep administration aware of the new technologies teachers are trained in. 2. Keep technology in mind when budgeting. 3. Allow the use of “games” in lessons and/or grouping centers.
