México’s Día de Independencia (Independence Day) By: Shantel Van Hauen & Rebecca Tierney

When do Mexicans celebrate? On September 16th, Méxican’s celebrate their Independence day!!

What?! Why?! The war was started from, México finally deciding to rebell against the “bad” spanish government. The man to finally start the rebellion was a man called by the name of Father Hidalgo. He gave a famous speech forever known as ‘Grito de Dolores’, speaking famous words of “Viva la Independencia!” Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla

Where?! Hidalgo led his growing military from village to village in the quest to get to México City.

Who?! México’s fight for Independence was against the colonial government of Spain! Méxican Flag Spanish Flag

Battle was When?! ★ Almost everyone fought in the battle to freedom that finally happened after 11 years. War for Independence took place from YEARS!

Party starts early!! When Méxican’s celebrate their Independence Day, they actually start celebrating on the evening of September 15th! They usually do reenactments or remember/honor Miguel Hidalgo on this night.

What activities happen during this celebration?!? PARADES!

Bullfights!

Traditional Dancing!

And so many more you couldn’t even imagine! Sounds like a great couple of days!

Cinco De Mayo is NOT Mexico’s Independence Day!!!
