Sci Fi Book Talks!

1984-George Orwell In 1984, Winston Smith lives in London which is part of the country Oceania. Oceania is a totalitarian society led by Big Brother, which censors everyone’s behavior and thoughts. Winston is disgusted with his oppressed life and secretly longs to join the fabled Brotherhood, a group of underground rebels intent on overthrowing the government. Warnings: Challenging read!

Gone by Michael Grant A town is changed forever after all of the people past age 15 mysteriously disappear. Now it is up to a group of courageous teenagers to figure out what happened and what they can do to change it. But before they do that, they must first stop a group of students from changing the town into a corrupt, chaotic mess that could destroy itself before the solution is found. Warning: Violence, some language, LONG!

Life as We Knew It- by Susan Beth Pfeffer In this Sci-Fi novel, the current world experiences natural disaster as a meteor crashes into the moon, driving it closer to the earth and causing natural chaos everywhere. Now it is every family for themselves as people fight for food, survival, and warmth. Does this family have what it takes to survive? Warnings: Mild Romance

Feed by M.T. Anderson This Sci Fi novel is set in a society where parents implant chips in their children’s heads which constantly feeds them information about their surroundings. However, one day a man comes into a party and causes all the people’s feeds to malfunction, and the teenagers there must figure out how to live without them. Warnings: LANGUAGE, confusing dialogue and terminologies

The Declaration-Gemma Malley Anna Covey is a 'Surplus'. She should not have been born. In a society in which ageing is no longer feared, and death is no longer an inevitability, children are an abomination. Like all Surpluses, Anna is living in a Surplus Hall and learning how to make amends for the selfish act her parents committed in having her. She is quietly accepting of her fate until, one day, a new inmate arrives. Anna's life is thrown into chaos. But is she brave enough to believe this mysterious boy?

Epic-Conor Kostick On New Earth, Epic is not just a computer game, it's a matter of life and death. If you lose, you lose everything; if you win, the world is yours for the taking. Seeking revenge for the unjust treatment of his parents, Erik subverts the rules of the game, and he and his friends are drawn into a world of power-hungry, dangerous players. Now they must fight the ultimate masters of the game -- The Committee. But what Erik doesn't know is that The Committee has a sinister, deadly secret, and challenging it could destroy the whole world of Epic.

Ender’s Game- Orson Scott Card The series is set in a future where mankind is facing annihilation by an aggressive alien society, an insect- like race known colloquially as "Buggers.” Ender is one of the child soldiers trained at Battle School to be the future leaders of the protection of Earth. The year is never specified, although the ages of the Wiggin children are specified to change throughout space, also carefully taking in the relativity of space and time.Battle School Warning: Challenging Read!
