Presentations Questions that will be answered today: What is a public presentation? What are the important parts of a presentation? Why are public Presentations important? How do I get started?

Public speaking This is the process of oral communication in a well-planned format to do one or more of three things: Inform Influence Entertain

Essential Parts of a Presentation Introduction: Body Conclusion **Site sources of information** Are there any Questions? Presenter must repeat all questions, as they are asked, prior to giving an answer.

Types of Presentations Demonstrations (Show how to…) Illustrated Talk: tells a story or informs Recitation: Memorization of a pre-written piece Dramatic Interpretation: re-Enactment of material from plays, movies, or monologues Speech: Formal, designed to motivate &inform Inpromptu (13+): presentation that is prepared immediately before giving the presentation

How should I look? You should be: Dressed neatly, appropriately and nicely. Wardrobe choices should be 4-H Appropriate Try to avoid logos and graphics Clean Hair and clothing should not be a distraction Hair needs to be pulled back appropriately for food presentations. **note that dressing nicely helps one to feel confident about presenting**

Why should I give a presentation? Presenting is an important skill. This is something that you will use for the rest of your life. Employers, colleges and organizations value these skills. It is fun. Seriously, it really is fun.

How do I get started? Find a topic, presentations can be about anything Do research Make note cards Practice Make changes Practice Practice some more Practice again
