What is Paleontology? Paleontology is the study of all prehistoric life including their environments and evolution. Their studies have been traced back to as far as 5 BC. The actual work and science of Paleontology was established in the 18 th century. It was established by the work of Georges Cuvier..

Discoveries Fossils have been found all across the world, everywhere from America to the Mediterranean Sea. The discoveries of fossils and prehistoric life have provided light on species from our past and our present. The first discovery of an ancient fossil was of a Megalosaurus. It was discovered in 1824 by William Buckland. The most frequent of fossils found are animal and human bones, wood and trace fossils.

What does Paleontology mean and include? In simplest terms, Paleontology is the study of ancient life. Its studies include those of Geology, Archeology, Biology, Astronomy, Cosmology, Philology and history all together. Paleontologists categorize fossils or things from our past by the time they came from or the time they assume they came from. The study of it borders between Geology and Biology.

The advantages of being a Paleontologist Paleontologists travel all across the world to make new discoveries. They work, not only on fossils, but on history all across the Earth dating back from the beginning of time. A PhD is required to graduate from college with to have a career in Paleontology or Archeology. The yearly salary of a Paleontologist is $67,470 to $133,310.
