Presentation transcript:

Dear Journal, Today my little brother Malek asked me how to fish. It was kind of hard to explain it because I haven’t done it in a while, so I just told him what my grandpa thought me.

. When going fishing, you have to go early in the morning to catch a lot of fish. Fish are usually looking for food this early. “I usually wake up like around 6:00”. I told him. “It’s pretty (interesting) because u get to put the worm on the hook for bait, throw the fishing rod as far as you can, then you would fill the fish snap on, and Boom! You have caught a fish.” I said. But it’s not that easy because you have to wait for a long time while they are hiding.

Fish live far down into the river or ocean where there is no light, but they try to make their way to the top. Most fish live in tubes, rocks, and in sand. If it’s a creature that lives at the bottom there less oxygen, and the temperature is colder. “There is more oxygen at the top because of the (water cycle)”. I said. The water cycle is the evaporation of the sun that pulls water from the ocean and it spreads in the air until it rains. When it rains in the form a drop (which can’t be form without (cohesion), the oxygen in the air comes down with it trapped in little bubbles, which gives the fish air.

The fish at the bottom of the ocean receives oxygen for these hydrogen vents. “I thought fish can’t breathe without water”? Malek asked. “They can’t”. I replied. They breathe bubbles with their gills. Fish also can swim very fast. They have scales that stick with water which is called (adhesion), and they have strong muscles in their body to wiggle their fins to help them swim. Without their fins, they would float even to the top or bottom, depending on their weight.

The reason the ocean is so deep is “because it has big fish in it, right”! He said with excitement. “No “. I told him. It’s because the surface goes diagonal until it gets to the drop off. The drop off is where the surface stops and go straight down in the dark. Most of the time Angler fish or Electric ells live down there. Nobody knows how many are down there in these gigantic oceans. I bet there are hundreds of them.

Water also goes into the tiny hole, rock, and grains of sand it’s called (capillary action.) “Mateo, did you know that the (water’s density) is 1.0g/ml?” Malek asked. “Yes, how did you know?” I replied. “My teacher told me”. He answered. “She also said that waters polarity and hydrogen bonding play a major role in making it able to dissolve so many polar things, like for an example, it dissolves glucose, oxygen and other nutrients in the blood, which is called a (Universal solvent).”, Wow, that’s pretty cool” I said.

After a while we sat in our boat watching the animals like the basilisk lizard and water strider have their full advantage and can actually give the appearance of “walking on water” Did you know that is called (surface tension). When we got back to the sand we sat down read a book and watched the water sink deep into the sand which you will soon know that it’s called Allows the temperature of lakes or oceans to change slowly, which protects marine life and Earth’s climate (specific heat).
