GSC17-GTSC10-06 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea Standards for Shared ICT 2 Highlight of Current Activities Study status on future networks in ITU-T SG13 6 Approved Recommendations: –Y.3001: Objective and Design Goals –Y.3011: Framework of network virtualization for future networks –Y.3021: Framework of energy saving for future networks –Y.3031: Identification framework in future networks –Y.3041: Smart Ubiquitous Networks (SUN) – Overview of SUN –Y.3042: SUN- Smart Traffic Control and Resource Management Functions 10 Draft Recommendations (work programme): –Y.amnsa: Requirements and Architectural Framework for Auto Manageable Future Networks and Services –Y.FNsdn: Framework of SDN for carrier networks in Future Networks –Y.FNsdn-fm: Requirements of formal specification & verification methods for SDN –Y.Fnvirtreq: Requirement of network virtualization for Future Networks –Y.FNDAN: Framework of Data Aware Networking for Future Networks –Y.FNID-config: Configurations of node identifiers and their mapping with locators in future networks –Y.energyMRM: Energy measurement of networks –Y.Fnsocioeconomic: Socio-Economic Aware Design of Future Network Technology –Y.SUN-cdf: Functional architecture of content delivery in SUN –Y.SUN-content: Framework of content awareness for Smart Ubiquitous Networks

GSC17-GTSC10-06 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea Standards for Shared ICT 3 Hurdles on study of future networks Clearance of future networks: –Definition: “A network able to provide services, capabilities, and facilities difficult to provide using existing network technologies. A future network is either: a) A new component network or an enhanced version of an existing one, or b) A heterogeneous collection of new component networks or of new and existing component networks that is operated as a single network. –4 Objectives: Awareness (Service-, Data-, Environmental-, Social and Economic- awareness) –12 Design goals: service diversity, functional flexibility, virtualization, data access, energy consumption, service universalization, economic incentives, network management, mobility, optimization, identification and reliability & security  Objectives/Targets, scope, directions and technologies: NOT CLEAR Use of the name (title): –Considerations for identifying the title: Incorporate: key features/characteristics, key technologies, market trends, business trends and/or user needs as soon as possible Avoid: terms difficult to define, clarify scopes and boundaries  Future networks: Noun or Pro-noun, aiming for service, networks, technology, business or user needs (?)

GSC17-GTSC10-06 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea Standards for Shared ICT 4 Difficulties on study of future networks Name of Network & Definition Requirements & Capabilities Functions & Architecture Mechanisms Protocols Top down or Bottom up Technical Area 1 (e.g. Services & Applications) Technology Area 2 (e.g., Platform A) Technology Area 3 (e.g., Transport) Technology Area 4 (e.g., Transmission) Technology Area 5 (e.g. Medium) Technology Area 2 (e.g., Platform A) Technology Area 5 (e.g. Medium) timeline SDN Technology developments regardless of defined networks So far, difficult to imagine “a network replace existing networks” and also difficult to find out set of technologies to cover full scope of future network Less industries having interest to invest for long term projects

GSC17-GTSC10-06 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea Standards for Shared ICT Strategic Direction and Challenges Technical Area 1 (e.g. Services & Applications) Technology Area 2 (e.g., Platform A) Technology Area 3 (e.g., Transport) Technology Area 4 (e.g., Transmission) Technology Area 5 (e.g. Medium) Technology Area 2 (e.g., Platform A) Technology Area 5 (e.g. Medium) Timeline Future Networks (as a vision: Y.3001) ABC DEF 123 XYZ Use Future Network as a flag (vision) Collect candidate technologies especially collaborating with research communities including academy Identify milestones with clearer scope and a set of candidate technologies Identify clear title to represent each milestone (e.g., ABC, DEF, 123, XYZ) 5

GSC17-GTSC10-06 GSC-17, Jeju / Korea Standards for Shared ICT 6 Next Steps / Actions Collect vision (targets and scopes) of each SDOs Collect technologies which consider as candidate for the vision of each SDOs Identify common milestone(s) with target vision and set of technologies which will be supported by GSC collaboration Develop “ROADMAP” for future network collaboration of GSC ITU-T should be taken “A Prime Role”
