Greece Succumbs to the Romans By Tyran Closson

The Greeks gave the world many things!

They gave us democracy.

Democracy allowed people to vote for their rulers.

They created fine buildings.

Fine statues

They wrote the first plays

They also introduced the Olympic Games

But the Greeks could not go on developing these peaceful ideas for they were threatened by other nations.

The Greeks were threatened by King Phillip of Macedonia.

Macedonia is located in northern Greece.

King Phillip made an alliance with King Antiochus IIIof Syria.

An alliance is an agreement between two people to work together on something.

On what continent is Syria?

Correct, Syria is located on the continent of ASIA!

King Phillip wanted to conquer all of Greece, but he needed Antiochus’ help.

The Romans heard of the alliance and were mad!

The Romans helped the Greeks in their war against King Phillip.

The Romans defeated King Philip and King Antiochus III of Syria.

The Romans told the Greeks that they just wanted to be their friends.

The Romans stayed in Greece and saw many of the wonders of Greek culture.
