I was born in London, England, in 1565 My first job was as a cabins boy on a large boat. The boat below is an example of one of my ships.
After a few more years I became an apprentice. Then in a couple of months I was a very skilled sailor.
On my first voyage, the Muscovy Company ( English firm ) entrusted me to find the “thought to be real” Northwest Passage. I was blocked by ice shields and had to return empty handed.
My second voyage was also stopped by ice shields.
MMy third voyage was under the rule of the Dutch and I thought that there were two possible Northwest passages but they failed and I was sent back to Holland.
My fourth voyage was under British rule in April 17, After about one month of sailing around, I found a river and a bay that would be later named after me.
The river that was named after me became one of the most popular rivers in the United States.
I sadly died in 1611 at age 45.
