Background Written in AD 55/56 Audience: Corinthian Christians Author: the apostle Paul Written to address the problems going on in the church

Chapter 9 Paul proclaims his rights as an apostle; does not use these rights Preaches the gospel to spread the word Does not expect any rewards on earth Tolerates differences of people

“I have become all things to all, to save at least some” (1 Corinthians 9:22)

Chapter 10 People of the past = examples for us Example : the Israelites Avoid evil things, such as idolatry Respect other religions, but do not tend to them if they are idolatrous
