Catch Me If You Can Who doesnt want to commit check fraud and become a millionaire?

Plot Carl Hanratty meets Abagnale in a French Prison. Then there is a flash back and Frank learns his mom was having affairs with his dads friend. Franks parents get a divorce. He is forced to choose between his mom and dad. He runs away and stays healthy using checks his dad had given him.

Plot Contd. Frank eventually runs out of money. He begins to use confidence scams. He begins to impersonate a PAN-AM pilot. He starts to forge payroll checks and successfully steals over 2.8 million dollars. Meanwhile, Hanratty begins to attempt to track Frank down. Frank quits the pilot gig and impersonates a doctor in Georgia.

Plot Contd. While in Georgia, Frank falls in love with Brenda Strong. Frank asks Brenda to marry him, she says yes. Franks escapes to Europe after Hanratty attempts to arrest Frank at his engagement party. Frank is caught in Europe and has to serve 7 years in a French prison.

Plot Contd. After Franks seven years in France, he is flown back to the U.S. While taxing into the airport, Frank escapes the airplane. He is eventually captured and sentenced to a long sentence in a maximum security prison. He is allowed out early to help the FBI work on stopping check fraud.

Character Accuracy Leonardo DiCaprio and the real Frank Abagnale look oddly similar. The real Frank Abagnale did not write the millions of dollars in bad checks that they say he wrote he only wrote 2.5 million.

Chronology The times in which all of Franks crimes were committed are in decent order. In the movie, Frank serves 7 years in the French prison. In real life, he only serves five, although he was sentenced to twelve.

Language/Social Values The prison sentences and punishments that were handed out to Abagnale were harsh and cruel in that time period. He was a minor when charged. Now for what he did he would not have gotten near the punishment that he did then.

Overall Accuracy The film is mostly accurate. Some of the inaccuracies include, the amount of money he stole, and how much time he spent in prison. In the movie, Frank sees his dad again, but he never sees him in real life. His mom also never remarries or has kids.
