So what is Physical Science? An introduction to the topics covered in 8 th grade Physical GLMS

PHYSICAL SCIENCE Physics Acoustics Optics Energy Nuclear Science Electricity Sound Light Magnetism Laws of Motion Gas Laws Chemistry Atomic theory Subatomic particles Elements Molecules Compounds Chemical reactions Electronics Engineering

First Nine-Weeks Nature of Science / Introduction to Physical Science (1-2 weeks) Motion and Forces (5-6 weeks) Science Fair Project selection / preparation (1-2 weeks) MONDAY = SF DAY

Second Nine-Weeks WORK and ENERGY (3-4 weeks) Waves, Electricity and Magnetism (3-4 weeks) Optics (1-2 weeks)

Third Nine-Weeks Classification of Matter / States of Matter (3-4 weeks) Atomic Theory (1-2 weeks) Periodic Table of the Elements (3-4 weeks)

Fourth Nine-Weeks Properties of Atoms (1-2 weeks) Chemical Bonds (3-4 weeks) Chemical Reactions (2-3 weeks)

Grading Grades will be determined by a TOTAL POINT SYSTEM –Tests are worth from 40 – 100 points each; there will be 3-5 tests/quarter –Quizzes are worth from points; with 1 or 2 each week –LAB / PROJECTS are 25 – 100 points; with from 4 – 6 each quarter –Homework assignments are from points; homework points will not exceed 20% of the total for the quarter; homework is two times each week – usually!

How can I check my progress? P.I.N. (Parent Information Network); register at school; check posted grades from any computer with internet access. Request a grade check/missing assignment slip from the teacher; please allow 24 hours (I’ll try to get it done during the class period, but that isn’t always possible.) Send me your address and you’ll get bi- weekly grade updates.
