Early Governments The colonist established their own governments based on the English model. The Mayflower Compact is considered the first form of government in the English colonies Massachusetts created the General Court, while Virginia created the House of Burgess.

Most accused were only guilty of being women w/o husbands The trials ended with the governor’s wife accused. 25 died and over 150 jailed
