The Structure of Solids  Read about Particles in a Solid, page 92 in Focus on Physical Science.  Take notes on the following terms:  Solids: particle arrangement and movement  Crystalline solids  Amorphous solids  Examples of crystalline and amorphous solids  Watch the demonstration with chocolate and the Jolly Rancher. Write your observations (in your IAN: Pg. 12

Relevant Changes of State During this lab, we will take the salol through two changes of state: Melt: Freeze: From solid to liquid; gain energy From liquid to solid; lose energy

Lab Process Steps 1.Your teacher will come melt the salol by holding a flame under the slide. 2.Hold a piece of ice on the bottom of the slide, then wipe the bottom off. 3.Observe the salol re-crystalize using the stereoscope. 4.Draw the crystals.(On pg. 11 of IAN)
