If You Lived 100 Years Ago…

Who was the President? William Howard Taft was the President of the United States.

2010 Barack Obama is our president.

How much was a stamp? A Postage stamp cost two cents.

2010 Today a stamp cost forty-four cents.

American Flag The American flag had only 46 stars. Arizona, New Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska had not been admitted as states yet.

2010 Our flag has 50 stars.

School Teachers had to sweep the floor every day and start a fire in the schoolhouse every morning so the room would be warm when the children arrived.

2010 We have modern schools with heat and custodians to help keep our school clean.

School Supplies There was no Scotch tape or magic markers. Crayons only came in 8 different colors.

2010 Today there are over 100 different colors of crayons, and multi-colored tape.

Bathtubs Only 14% of the population had bathtubs. Most people only washed their hair once a month and they used Borax or egg whites for shampoo.

2010 Homes have a bath and a shower. Some homes have more than on bathroom.

Cars Henry Ford sold 10,000 Model T cars. This was the first car that was mass-produced for the public to buy.

2010 Ford is currently the fourth-largest automaker in the world based on number of vehicles sold annually.
