Our Visit To Gallery Oldham Did We Like It? ‘’YES WE DID!’’

We liked the surroundings of the gallery as they contrasted to the structured building. Organic.

Another contrast in materials are the sources of light. - Natural - Artificial, Contemporary Lighting The interior is minimalistic – exhibitions are conveyed at their full potential.

Various Exhibitions ‘Visions and Voices’- Childhood Today. ‘All Our Childhoods’ – Childhood History. Alan Rankle- - ‘Landscapes For The Turning Earth’ – Landscapes from around the world. - ‘On The Edge Of Arcadia’- Multimedia exploring the Industrial Revolution.

Alan Rankle On the edge of arcadia Each artwork is layered with a number of meanings some of which are explored here; Industrial revolution -Transition from farming and cottage industries (to) mechanisation and mass production -People moved from the countryside to towns in search of employment.

On the edge of arcadia Explores the impact of industrialisation on the landscape represents the long-term wealth effects Multimedia installation created especially for gallery Oldham The golden sheeps haeds are a symbol of wealth made from the land and in particular the wool industry The slagheap is a reference to industrial waste and residue

The rural idyll This is a new romanticised view of the countryside The industrial revolution prompted mass migration and rapid expansion of towns and cities Composition-painting is ruined by the central feature (a factory,) the colours are angry (red,) dirty (greys,) unorganised and could represent blood and the effects of pollution
