3 THE ROLE OF EDUCATION Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) Report. Spain: It was not until the late 1990s that an entrepreneurial culture really began to take root, especially among young adults. However, there is still a high level of aversion to risk, and there is still little acceptance of entrepreneurial success. As a consequence, traditionally, university education has not been focused on entrepreneurship. But...

4 THE ROLE OF EDUCATION This is changing in Spain. For instance: Subjects about entrepreneurship are increasingly more frequent in the universities’ study plans. Subjects about social economy firms, especially co-ops, are becoming more and more frequent as well, promoting among students the setting up of these types of companies. Some universities have started business incubators. In many universities students run a “junior enterprise”, as part of a pan-European network.

11 RESEARCH CENTRE OF BUSINESSES. Missions: To collect and update, systematically, the relevant information about business in the province of Huelva and its economic sectors, to make a centre of documentation where everything is kept. The study of real cases which will enrich teaching and will serve as a base for more research in management. The study of the best businesses and the identification of the keys or basic principles of their management, which have taken them to high levels of excellence.

12 RESEARCH CENTRE OF BUSINESSES. Missions: The transfer of entrepreneurship values, both to the society in general and to the university students in particular, encouraging entrepreneurial spirit through the example of successful businesses and entrepreneurs, and the way they work. To investigate and raise proposals in all aspects related to the creation and management of businesses in Huelva, especially those oriented to Social Economy. To research on innovation and transnational cooperation.

13 OTHER INITIATIVES: Seminars of promoting entrepreneurial spirit. Visits of business incubators. Identification of obstacles the university students of Huelva meet on creating a businesses. Meetings of new entrepreneurs from Huelva. Laboratory for transfering entrepreneurial experiences.
