Two main reasons for using a CV Applying for advertised job vacancies, where the advert specifies "Send a CV..." Applying ‘speculatively’ to potential employers i.e. when no vacancy has been advertised.

1. Personal Details 2. Career Aims or personal profile 3. Educations and qualifications 4. Employment/work experience 5. Achievements 6. Interests and leisure activities 7. Referees

For some advice and information on how to create a CV and what to include. You are now going to read an example CV together in your group. Discuss how it could be improved, and what is good about it.

1. Check your address – otmail.com otmail.com 2. Check spelling and grammar! – 70% of CV’s are rejected due to spelling mistakes! 3. Make sure you have the correct telephone number! 4. Don’t lie. 5. Tailor your CV to suit the job you are applying for.

LinkedIn is a social networking site like facebook where you are able to write about your work history and current employment. Sometimes it is used as an employment networking tool.

h?v=I97wpKtD_30&feature=r elated What are interviews used for? Why are they important? How do you think you should behave in an interview? What skills are useful? Watch the clip…

You are now going to interview each other about the group work you have done. Remember to shake hands after introducing yourselves! We are looking for: Clear communication Confidence Enthusiasm Use of examples

Arrive on time - ideally at least ten minutes early which will give you time to relax and collect your thoughts. If you are unexpectedly delayed, contact your prospective employer as soon as possible to explain the situation; Have all the relevant documentation ready to present if needed: your interview invitation and a copy of your CV and cover letter or application form; Switch your mobile phone off before you enter the interview room. Once the interview commences you will continue to make a positive impression if you: Listen carefully to each question and give concise answers supported with relevant examples; avoid saying just yes or no; Ask for clarification if a question is not clear; Speak clearly and loudly enough for the interviewer to hear and try to keep to a moderate pace; Stay as relaxed as possible. Prepare techniques in advance that will help to offset any nervousness.

Prizes: One team will now be selected as the winner. The teams will be judged according to the criteria we have just seen. The winning team will be presented with a team cheque and certificates. Good luck!
