Members Management department (IMS) A group of 6 employees who's task is to support members and local groups in their activities Financial support for activities Centrally organized events Ur Folkbildningspropositionen - Lära, växa, förändra 2005/06 : 192

What do we do?  Decentralizing JAK  Popular Education  Practical examples Local groups in JAK

”Popular Education” : A Swedish tradition where people organize their own education. contributes to a deeper democracy, lifelong learning and empowerment. offers places for people to meet and functions as an arena for discussions about our future society. Ur Folkbildningspropositionen - Lära, växa, förändra 2005/06 : 192

”Popular Education” : Focus on local activities rather than “traditional marketing”. What we do: meetings, basic JAK-courses, seminars, film screenings, book tables at fairs etc. Results in competent members active as ambassadors that are also prepared for taking part in the internal democratic process. Ur Folkbildningspropositionen - Lära, växa, förändra 2005/06 : 192

Decentralizing JAK Local groups organized similar to non-profit organizations, but are not a juridical person Each local group has a local board, called work group (for not confusing with the central board) Decentralized responsibility for budget and activities. Budget is presented to the national JAK board and approved (totally or partially) --> distribute financial resources to local

Ideas from below Organize local but also sometimes national events like the summer seminars (helped by the staff in members management department) National JAK board sends questions to the local groups. Decentralizing JAK

3 examples of local groups: - Local group in Uppsala - Local group in Stockholm - Local group in Kalmarsund

JAK Kalmarsund local group... or how we started a local group - we started with some ground courses - first interest meetings - founding the local group officially - First party!
