They provide basic information on how to use the Internet. The workbooks should be used with a trainer. StopPreviousNext Websites in your language In this workbook we will look at ways to find information on the Internet in different languages. We will look at how to find websites from around the world, using the MyLanguage website and Google search how to use free translation tools on the Google website how to find translated information on Australian government websites. 6

StopPreviousNext 7 MyLanguage website MyLanguage is an Australian website which provides links to websites in 65 languages. You can find websites on topics such as news, current affairs and society shopping and consumer information the arts and entertainment computers games regional information science sport cooking and gardening

StopPreviousNext 8 The address for MyLanguage is Have a go 1. Move the mouse over the address bar. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type 4. Find the language of your choice. 5. Move your mouse over that language. 6. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 9 Have a go We will show you an example using the Turkish language. 1. Move your mouse over T ϋ rkçe (Turkish). 2. Do 1 click. 3. You will see the Turkish language web page. 4. Move the mouse over the topic you want to see – Spor (sport). 5. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the type of sport you want to see – Futbol (football). 7. Do 1 click. 8. Move your mouse over the website you want to see. 9. Do 1 click. You will see the website. Now Have a go using your preferred language. Start at Step 1 on page 8.

StopPreviousNext 11 Using a search engine to find a website The Internet is used across the world. There are websites in many languages. To go to a websites you can type the website address. If you do not know the website address, you can search for the address by using a search engine website. In this workbook you will use the Google search engine in the language of your choice.

StopPreviousNext 12 Have a go Go to the Google website 1. Move the mouse over the address bar. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type 4. Press the Enter key on the keyboard. You will see the Google website. Google has language tools that can help you find websites in the language of your choice. 5. Move the mouse over Language Tools. 6. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext You will see the Google Language Tools web page. There are five sections 1. Translated search 2. Translate text 3. Translate a web page 4. Use the Google interface in Your Language. 5. Visit Googles Site in Your Local Domain (country)

StopPreviousNext 14 Google search in your language To find websites in the language of your choice, go to Google Interface in Your Language section. We will use Spanish as an example. Have a go 1. Move your mouse over Spanish. 2. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 15 You will see the Google Español (Spanish) website. 3. Move the mouse over the Search box. 4. Do 1 click. 5. Type in the words in Spanish for your search, for example noticias (news). 6. Move the mouse over Buscar con Google (Google Search). 7. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 16 You will see a list of websites. The websites are in Spanish. 8. Move your mouse over the website you want to look at. 9. Do 1 click. You will see the website.

StopPreviousNext 17 Use Google search in your language Have a go Go to the Google website. 1. Move the mouse over the address bar. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in 4. Move the mouse over Language Tools. 5. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 18 Scroll down the web page and find Use the Google Interface in Your Language. Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the language you want to use. 2. Do 1 click. You will see the Google search website in your language. 3. Move your mouse over the Search box. 4. Do 1 click. 5. Type in the words for your search. 6. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 19 You will see the search results page. Your search results will be in the language you have used. Choose the website you would like to look at from the results list. 7. Move your mouse over the website link. 8. Do 1 click. 9. You will see the website you chose.

StopPreviousNext 20 Google search in your domain In the previous exercise you used Google search in your language. You can also use Google search in your domain (country) to find websites. Note: Google does not have search engines for every country in the world.

StopPreviousNext 21 On the Language Tools page, scroll down to Visit Googles Site in Your Local Domain. Have a go 1. Find the flag for your country. 2. Move your mouse over the flag. 3. Do 1 click. You will see the Google search website for the country you have chosen.

StopPreviousNext 22 Google translation tools On the Language Tools page, there are three tools used to translate words between English and other languages. The three tools are 1. Translated search 2. Translate text 3. Translate a web page

StopPreviousNext 23 Translated search This tool translates websites from one language into another. For example, you can translate English websites into the language you choose. Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the Search for box. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in the words of your search. You can type in English or another language. We will search for news.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the arrow next to English. 5. Do 1 click. You will see a list of languages. 6. Move your mouse over the language you want to use. 7. Do 1 click. 8. Move your mouse over the Translate and Search box. 9. Do 1 click. You will see a list of websites translated into the language you chose.

StopPreviousNext Translate text You can use this tool to type text and translate it between two languages. You can type text in English and translate it into your language type text in your language and translate it into English. If you cant type in your language, you can use this tool to translate words into your language. You can then copy and paste the translated words into your Google search box or into a document. 25

StopPreviousNext 26 Have a go In this example, you will translate text from English into another language. 1. Move your mouse over the text box. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in the words you would like to have translated, for example news. 4. Move your mouse over the arrow next to the first language box. 5. Do 1 click. You will see a list of languages. 6. Move your mouse over English. 7.Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 8. Move your mouse over the arrow next to the second language box. 9.Do 1 click. 10. Move your mouse over the language you want to use. 11. Do 1 click. 12. Move your mouse over the Translate box. 13. Do 1 click. You will see this screen. The word has been translated. 27

StopPreviousNext 28 You can copy this word into a Google search engine or into a Word document. Have a go 1. Move your mouse to the start of the word. 2. Do 1 click with the left mouse button, hold your mouse button down. 3. Drag your mouse over the word to highlight the word Let your mouse button go. Do 1 click on the right mouse button. You will see a menu. Move your mouse over Copy. Do 1 click (left button).

StopPreviousNext Decide where you want to paste the word. In this example, you will paste the translated word into the Google search box of the website of your language. 9.Move your mouse over the back tool. 10. Do 1 click. 11. Scroll down the page. 12. Open the Google website for your language. 29

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the search box. 14. Do 1 click on the Right mouse button. 15. You will see a menu. 16. Move your mouse over Paste. 17. Do 1 click. You can now complete your search.

StopPreviousNext 31 Translate a web page You can use the Translate a web page tool when you find a website in English and you want to read it in your language. In this exercise, we will translate a web page in English into Arabic. Have a go 1. Scroll down the Language Tools web page to Translate a web page. 2. Move your mouse over the website address box. 3. Do 1 click. 4. Type in the address of the website you want to translate.

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the arrow next to the first language box. Do 1 click. You will see a list of languages Move your mouse over English. Do 1 click. Move your mouse over the arrow next to the second language box. 10. Do 1 click. You will see a list of languages. 11. Move your mouse over Arabic. 12. Do 1 click. 32

StopPreviousNext Move your mouse over the Translate box. 14. Do 1 click. You will see the website translated into Arabic. Note: Only the text will be translated. Some words may be displayed as a picture (for example, a company name). These words will not be translated.

StopPreviousNext 34 Google Translate This is a simple translation tool on Google. Have a go 1. Move your mouse over more. 2. Do 1 click. 3. A list appears. 4. Move your mouse over even more. 5. Do 1 click. 6. Move your mouse over Translate. 7. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext You will see one screen where you can translate text a website or a document.

StopPreviousNext 36 Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the text box. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in the text or website address. 4. Move your mouse over the down arrow next to each of the language options. 5. Do 1 click. 6. Click on your preferred language. 7. Do 1 click. 8. Move your mouse over Translate. 9. Do 1 click. You will see the translated website or text.

StopPreviousNext 37 Translated government information The Victorian Government website is a good place to find information from the Australian federal, state and local governments. Go to the Victorian Government website Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the address bar. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in

StopPreviousNext Press the Enter key on the keyboard. You will see the Victorian Government website. Search for translated information Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the box above Search in the top right hand corner. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in the words for a search, for example translated information. 4. Move your mouse over the word Search. 5. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 39 You will see a list of websites with translated information. Go to a website with translated information Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the website you want to look at. 2. Do 1 click. In this example, you will go to the website for the Australian Electoral Commission. You will see the web page for Translated Information. 3. Move your mouse over the language of your choice. 4. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 40 You will see a web page in your chosen language. There are a number of links. 5. Move the mouse over the link you want to see. 6. Do 1 click. The translated information is displayed.

StopPreviousNext 41 Return to the Victorian Government website to start another search Have a go 1. Move the mouse over the back arrow. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Repeat this action until you return to the Victorian Government website. Start a new search This time the search will be more specific. You will search for a topic and a language. In this example, we will search for health polish translated information.

StopPreviousNext 42 Have a go 1. Move your mouse over the search box. 2. Do 1 click. 3. Type in health polish (or your language) translated information. 4. Move your mouse over Search. 5. Do 1 click. You will see a list of websites. 6. Move your mouse over the website you would like to see. In this example, we will look at the Beyond Blue website. 7. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 43 You will see the beyond blue web page with information available in a number of languages. 8. On the left menu, move your mouse over Polish (or your chosen language). 9. Do 1 click. You will see a page with text and documents in your language. 10. To view a document, move the mouse over Download. 11. Do 1 click.

StopPreviousNext 44 The translated information is displayed. If the information does not display and you see a box 1. Move the mouse over Open. 2. Do 1 click. The translated information is now displayed.
