Let’s vote on a decade 50’s (available) 60’s taken 70’s taken 80’s taken 90’s (available)

FairyTales  Do Now: Choose a fairytale (could be a folk tale, classic rhyme, or fairytale).  Choose your favorite character: does not have to be the main character.  Define this character: (what is the character of this character?) don’t describe the physical aspect, but what the character contributes to the story instead)  Transform and transport your character to the decade we voted on. What and why did you created this new character. Be ready to present!

Get in to groups! YAY!  A musical is simply a story that is told through acting and singing!!! How Exciting!!! YAY! But is takes hard work to construct an interesting story!

Characters: Pay Attention!!!  characters: Rumpulstiltskin  Wolf  Cinderella  Hansel  Snow White  Lambkin  Little Red Riding Hood  Wolf (3 little pigs)  step-mom (Cinderella)  practical pig  Wizard (wizard of oz)  Practical pig #2  Belle from beauty and the beast  Alice in wondeland  cinderella NOTE: These have to be in the same group and stick together… in order to work, think about it like two’s-a- team… but they are not supposed to be all together in the same group. There are:  2 pigs  2 wolves  2 Cinderellas

Story starters: words in white can be substituted by other nouns or verbs These are some good ideas for a good story starter: 1. I never expected that one day I’d open my closet and find….. 2. It was obviously going to be an unusual day when my mom came into my bedroom and said….. 3. She was a funny old lady, but I know she had come to tell me….. 4. It was my best friend’s deepest secret and it would be a hard one to keep….. 5. Goats, sheep, and chickens belong on the farm, not in the middle of……. 6. Late one night the neighbor knocked on the front door and asked…. 7. Something brushed up against my foot and my surprise turned to horror as I looked down and saw…… 8. I never thought that putting prom together was going to be so difficult…… 9. The day that I mostly dreaded is here; why must go to this new school….

Script Brainstorming  Using the story starters, brainstorm your own script, discuss with your group what is happening in your storyboard, what is the problem, how are your characters linked or related to the other groups, and how construct a solution…. Or does the solution rest in another group…. Be ready to present with your group….  Also think about the music according to the decade.

Writing the script! (follow this format) Title (2-3 words long) By your names Synopsis One paragraph describing your play, characters, problem, setting, and time; but leave the ending as a mystery…. Scene 1 Luana (Sandy): “blah, blah, blah…” (Show action: Laughs, runs back stage, falls, cries, stumps out of the room…. Etc. ) A year later….., Two hours later….., Later in math class….., Sandy: “blah, blah, blah…” Scene 2

Music!!! 1. Choose music appropriate for your era and story. Keep the music selection clean, descent, and make sure that it has a positive message to young people. 2. Take the song that you have chosen for your play and look at the lyrics, you may arrange the lyrics to link it more to your story. Write out the new set of lyrics. 3. In your groups, select two people that will be in charge of choreography. Discuss the steps, and write them out.
