 The MCC is an annual campaign which gives state government employees the opportunity to donate directly to their favorite charities  The campaign is administered by the Office of the Secretary of State  The United Way of Central Maryland serves as the Operating Agency  The Governor Chairs and Lt. Governor Co- Chairs the campaign. Secretary Lawlah is the assistant chair and Secretary Summers is the vice assistant chair who monitor the campaign

 The MCC is a United Way campaign ; Although United Way is one of 930+ worthy charities for which you can donate, the Maryland Charity Campaign is not a United Way Campaign and they do not receive a fee for being our operating agency  The MCC has a high overhead; Last year, our overhead was 13.5%; much lower than many of our charities  Both the MCC and the charity I choose take an overhead; Because the campaign is free to all the charities, they do not take any “overhead costs” out of the money they receive through MCC

 The charities only benefit central Maryland. There are charities that benefit all areas of the state, including national and international efforts. Some charities help specific areas while others have a broader range of coverage.  I don’t make enough money to give. We hope that everyone will take this opportunity to give their fair share. Every dollar helps, and we are grateful for every donor.
