Me and Uncle Romie Review

What genre is “Me and Uncle Romie”? “Me and Uncle Romie” is a Realistic Fiction.

From what point of view is “Me and Uncle Romie” told? “Me and Uncle Romie” is told from a first person point of view. James is telling the story, and he is a character in the story. He uses words like “I” and “me” when he tells the story.

Why is James going to New York City? James is going to New York City to spend the summer with his aunt and uncle for a vacation, because his mom is having twins soon.

What is James nervous about in the beginning of the story? In the beginning of the story, James is nervous about having to go to New York City to stay with his aunt and uncle. He has never met them, and New York is very different from his home.

Why does James think his birthday will be ruined? James thinks his birthday will be ruined because his aunt has to leave and he will be spending it with his uncle. James is sure that he and his uncle will have nothing in common. James thinks his uncle only cares about his art.

Is James’s birthday ruined? No, James and Uncle Romie have a great time on James’s birthday. James realizes that Uncle Romie and he do have many things in common after all. Uncle Romie even knows about baseball, as a matter of fact, he was a star pitcher in college.

Why does James think his Uncle’s artwork is easy in the beginning of the story? James thinks his uncle just takes any old thing and glues it down on paper. He does not realize all of the thought that is involved in his uncle’s artwork.

What changed James’s mind about Uncle Romie’s art? When James saw the collages Uncle Romie made of Harlem and of home, he realized all of the thought that his uncle puts into his work. James saw that every object had special meaning.

How do James’s feelings about his uncle change in the story? In the beginning, James thinks Uncle Romie and he have nothing in common. After they spend James’s birthday together, James realizes that they do have things in common.

What is the theme of this story? The theme of this story is that people’s first impressions can often be wrong. James thought that he and his uncle had nothing in common and would not have fun together. This turned out to be untrue. They had a great time.
