To what extent can findings be generalized from qualitative research

What are they asking? Can your research findings be used to make assumptions about subjects that were not part of your population. Scientists call this concept generalizability. Would interviewing the people involved in the Rye Harrison Rivalry yield similar results to….. To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research

Transference Is documenting the conditions under which a study was conducted so it can be determined to what extent it can be generalized. High levels of transferability help with generalization. To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research

How do you get transference? Let’s say the qualitative study was done in a school Was it a rural, suburban, urban or even international school? What was the socio-economic diversity of the school? What was the size of the school? What was the bilingual population? To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research

Transference The more similar a school is to the school in the original study, the more likely the findings can be generalized (or transferred to that school). Scarsdale and Greenwich have VERY similar demographics…so are they generalizable. To what extent can finding be generalized from qualitative research
