SIMS Summer Upgrade 2014

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade SEN In accordance with the introduction of the new SEN Code of Practice which comes into effect from September the SIMS Summer 2014 upgrade will contain the new SEN codes and types.

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade SEN SEN Codes: From September two new SEN Codes K and E: K - SEN Support E - Education Health and Care Plan (EHC plan)

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade SEN SEN Types From September two new SEN Types SMEH (social, mental and emotional health) NSA (SEN Support but no specialist assessment type of need)

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade SEN From September: SEN Type BESD (behaviour, emotional and social difficulties) will be removed. BESD will still be visible for historical need types, but not available to select as a new need and will remain in the reporting dictionary.

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade SEN - Transition SEN Code Transition Phase (2014/15 Academic Year) During the transitional phase schools will be able to record pupils as having either a statement or an EHC plan. Schools may have some pupils with statements and some who have already moved to EHC plans but no individual pupil can have both.

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade SEN - Transition SEN Code Transition Phase (Autumn Term 2014) The transitional phase for School Action and School Action Plus change to SEN Support is the Autumn Term This should fall in line with school practice of termly reviews for pupils who come under the SA/SA+ category. SA/SA+ category is acceptable for School Census Autumn 2014 but will not be acceptable for School Census Spring Where a pupil was under a category of SA the new code of NSA can be used.

SIMS Summer 2014 Upgrade Personnel – Salary Ranges Tools|Staff|Salary Update The Spring 2014 upgrade introduced functionality to use salary ranges. The Summer 2014 upgrade has functionality to bulk update multiple salary ranges with a percentage or an amount

School Census Autumn 2014 Free School Meal V Universal Free School Meal

School Census Autumn FSM The two types of free meal are treated in different ways in SIMS: FREE School Meal (FSM)– Pupils should only be recorded as FSM eligible if they meet the FSM eligibility criteria (ie in respect to family income) and make a claim. So – no change, continue to record FSM eligibility in SIMS.

School Census Autumn FSM FSM/Pupil Premium Remember Pupil Premium is dependant on FSM eligibility so keep asking for the information from your Years R, 1 and 2 parents.

School Census Autumn UFSM Universal Free School Meal - from September pupils in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 can receive a free school lunch through the infant pupil universal entitlement (universal free school meal). These pupils should not be recorded as FSM eligible as they will not attract the (deprived) pupil premium.

SIMS End of Academic Year 2014 Before end of academic year 20013/14 (31 August 2014) all schools must have created the new academic year and carried out the promotion routine to determine which year and registration groups your students will be placed in for the new year. If necessary curriculum/timetable assignment can be carried out once the new year has started.

SIMS End of Academic Year 2014 Year 11 Leavers Leavers Year 11 “As stated in previous years, schools are advised to insert the 27th June 2014 leaving date in September when the school has confirmation that the student is not returning. This process should continue. Obviously there is the issue of what absence code to use between 28th June and the end of term. From the the DfE Absence and Attendance Codes guidance January 2009 please find below an extract taken from page relating to 'X' code, which states that: Under the 2006 Pupil Registration regulations, schools cannot delete Year 11 pupils who intend to remain at the school and enter the Sixth Form (Year 12) from the school registers. Once the pupils have reached the end of their compulsory school-age, which is on the last Friday in June, they can be recorded using this code if the school has not asked them to attend. Using the 'X' code in this way allows the student to stay on roll until the school has confirmation that they have left. “

SIMS Seminar June 2014 SIMS SOLUS3

What is it? SOLUS3 is the updated version of the system which currently enables schools and academies to download and upgrade SIMS and other related applications

SIMS SOLUS3 Why is it being upgraded? updates can be easily scheduled allowing you to control when you want the upgrade the entire SIMS system can be upgraded without end-user SIMS user involvement SIMS client software can be installed remotely, reducing the need for a workstation visit the potential for local authorities to manage SIMS updates remotely for their supported schools

SIMS Solus3 When will this happen? The team will be receiving training on the deployment during July. We will be able to answer more questions about the implementation after this date SOLUS2 is currently available until Autumn 2015 upgrade

SIMS Seminar June 2014 FirstClass Housekeeping

The FirstClass database will shortly be transferred to a new data centre. In order to achieve this transfer the size of the database needs to be reduced Over recent weeks the number of user accounts have been reduced in an effort to bring the database down to the required size But we are not quite there yet!

FirstClass Housekeeping So…….. Can all schools please look at the information and conferences, calendars, folders etc. currently stored on FirstClass and let us know which can be removed. Do not remove the conferences yourself as in most cases the icon you see will only be a link to a centrally held container……just give us a list and we will do the rest.
