Ideas for using the iPod Touch / iPhone / iPad in Learning Languages

Menu du Jour. Practical ideas that you can use in your classes. Make the most of what the students already have. Get your students working independently: connected 24/7 learners. Motivate different learners.

Warnings! iPods will not replace computer access. I am not an expert! Your students may not be experts either. What do your students use their iPods for? Many of today’s ideas are stolen! (Apologies if they are yours.)

What is an iPod Touch?

Why use iPods in class? Many students are carrying a powerful computer in their pockets. Some students will be more motivated. We have very little time to teach our students in class. Less drain on our resources – less waiting, for the dictionary, the video camera, etc. Fun and cool!

iTunes Music Show music clips on YouTube Podcasts Thousands of language learning podcasts you can use on your PC or any MP3 player iTunesU Many universities now have their courses on iTunes and you can access them for free

Podcasts Thousands of language learning podcasts you can use on your PC or any MP3 player Search for your language Get recommendations from your listserve or other teachers Some you can subscribe to and get weekly updates, others are one offs
