Black remains a very popular background color. Its former relationship to mourning, death and mystery has been taken over with the connotation that it is urban, sophisticated and most importantly, an attitude. Black, and other very dark background color heuristics, serves as a platform for textually driven sites. White, for descriptive text, is a normal design technique for ease of reading against a dark background and it is again reminiscent of contemporary deigning trends. The use of purple does not have a connotation of penance or of the Christian Lenten season but studies have shown that it is attractive to creative personalities. Most viewers simply like the contrast with black. Color keyed associations are inferred since the grouping of important topics are in a purple text. Internal pages pick up on the gateway page color scheme and it provides a logical consistency throughout the site. American designers have a new found infatuation with color combinations that contrast nicely with gray. The color orange used to be associated with cheaply produced Oriental exports in the Post World War II era but it has seen a change due to its use in upscale clothing marketed towards the increased spending power of American youth. Orange now has a meaning associated with youthful vigor. American designers have a new found infatuation with color combinations that contrast nicely with gray. The consistent use of the gateway page color scheme in the internal pages is a good example of repetitive patterning that adds to the creator’s personality. It helps to establish an identity and does not tend to skew the original meaning of an upscale artist that recognizes contemporary trends. It is interesting to note the predominate use of geometric shape and line that underlie the bold use of large areas of color. This implied symmetry adds emphasis to the use of a contemporary color scheme. The large amount of “white space” found on the opening page emphasizes the image as being the center of focus. This is a recent phenomenon on the personal web pages of designers. Anonymity on the web is still represented by the blurred image of the designer and a duotone color schematic. The blurred image creates an aura of tension and replicates the popularity of “motion graphics” found in the marketing and advertising arena of television. Image manipulation also has the inferred meaning that the designer is comfortable with the newest software and not afraid to showcase his or her skills. The particular colors rendered in the Flash animation are complimentary although unrealistic. It invites audience participation and takes on a surreal form of imagery that has been developed on the gateway page. The technique of using a split screen not only allows for continuity, it also allows for relationships to be established. The typographical treatment of using a hand- written font style is keeping with a personal statement. This is becoming a trend with the new designers for sites that are not commerce based. This is an example of a site that creates intellectual value with the use of color. It is reminiscent of the traditional color heuristics found in the American Southwest and shows a strong Latin influence. It is also interesting to note that the images are a primitive take of the illuminated alphabetic lettering found in religious texts of medieval Europe. Blue is a predominate color on the gateway page both in lettering and in the main image. It is a universally applied color and the connotation implies that good, from the sky, comes from above and severely dark colors, evil, comes from below.

The background texture is reminiscent of the sandy soil that is a predominate feature in the physical location of the site’s designers. The whole design attempts to create an inviting atmosphere that will draw the user into further exploration of the contents. Whether we view the web as a vehicle for information or simply conveying an experience, it has become a part of our emotional response that challenges traditional constraints and is creating a culture shaped by technology.
