Slovene education system

Pre-school Attended by 1-5 year olds Optional Divided into creche and kindergarten Both are optional

Primary school At the age of 6 pupils enter the 9-year compulsory school Compulsory Grades range from 1-5, with 5 being the best grade and 1 the worst

Secondary education Students are years old 3 types: vocational, technical and grammar schools

Vocational secondary school Lasts 3 years Prepares students for a profession There is a final exam at the end

Technical secondary school Lasts 4 years Students can continue their studies at colleges of higher education and also at university, if they pass the matura exam.

Grammar school Lasts 4 years No profession after finishing Matura is taken at the end Matura grants access to all types of higher education

Tertiary education Attended by 19-23/26 year olds Three degrees: Bachelor, Master and Doctorate University takes 4 years to complete and an additional year for a degree
