Detours and Stops along the Way ● During College: - Basketball and Baseball Official - Athletic Field Maintenance - Intramural official at Campus Recreation ● Post Graduation - Any odd job at local Park District - Lots of officiating at different Park Districts ● Exactly one year from end of my internship to being offered full-time job ● Applied for 10 jobs a month ● 1 interview for every 10 jobs I applied for
What I wish I knew while in College ● RecTrac ● Working with affiliate groups/ members in the community ● Working with other departments ● Budget Work ● Taxes/ Bonds
Expertise ● Athletics ● Athletic Field Scheduling and Rental Facility Scheduling ● Working with officials ● Putting together schedule for athletic leagues ● Handling questions about leagues ● Working with youth sport affiliate groups
Advice ● Get involved with groups while in college ● Work/Volunteer at local Park District/YMCA/Community Center during summers and breaks ● After graduation find part-time jobs in your field that involve supervising Etc. Open Gym/Adult Softball Supervisor
Other Items ● Typically work day- 8:30-5:00pm ● Nights and weekends ● First and last night of leagues/programs ● Best Day on the job- Getting offered to stay on Full-Time ● Worst Day on the job- Crashing the Kubota
