The flow of the sentence Read the Spanish sentence from right to left. Gustar loosely translates as “to please.” Translate the sentence as “something pleases someone.”

Sample sentence “She likes pizza. In Spanish it would say, “Pizza pleases her.”

Le gusta la pizza. This is the Spanish sentence. The word(s) that follow gustar determine its form. Because pizza is singular, use gusta. The word used for her is le.

She likes tacos. Think: “Tacos please her.”

“Le gustan los tacos.” The thing (tacos) that follows gustan is plural, therefore the plural form of gustar is used. Gusta is singular and gustan is plural.
