Navigation – Receiver Setup

Garmin GPS III Plus Buttons

To turn on/off the unit press and hold the red power button for 2-3 seconds. Garmin GPS III Plus Receiver

GPS III Plus Startup Page Upon turning on the receiver, this is the initial page that automatically appears after the introductory screen.

GPS III Plus Pages

MENU Push Menu button twice to access main menu. Access the Main Menu Scroll down to Setup using rocker key. ENTER MARK Press Enter button once.

In Main Menu page the receiver can be configured to the user’s needs and preferences. Set Up the Receiver Display Units display Basic settings Set time zone Heading display QUIT Press Quit button to exit any menu or page. ENTER MARK Press Enter button to make a selection.

Press Page button until Map Page appears (shows data fields turned on). Set Up the Map Display With Map Page displayed press Menu button once to open Map Page options.

Data Fields shown turned off. Orientation tab: to set up map for north up or track up viewing. Set Up the Map Display (cont.)

Move the cursor over a feature and an ID bubble pops up. In addition, you get distance, bearing and coordinates to that point from your present location. Move the cursor over a feature and push GOTO button if you would like to navigate to that feature. To exit cursor mode, press Quit button. Map Panning Features

Receiver Compass Page The bearing pointer indicates direction to destination. Data fields provide navigation information.

To open Compass options, press Menu button while in the Compass page. Receiver Compass Page (cont.) MENU ENTER MARK Big numbers view. After selecting an option, press Enter button. QUIT Press Quit button to exit any menu or page.

To turn on the GPS unit, push and hold the Power button. Initial screen appears. Wait until the first satellite signal bar turns solid black (diagram shows no signals acquired yet). Downloading a New Almanac

Every satellite continuously transmits almanac data as part of its signal. A GPS receiver need only acquire one satellite signal to begin downloading a new almanac. Wait minutes after first satellite signal is acquired.

Power Down the GPS III Plus To turn off the GPS unit, push and hold the Power button until the LCD screen goes blank.
