Wavelength Division Multiplexing - principle Flashlink has 3 types of WDM: WDM: 2 wavelengths per fiber CWDM: 16 wavelengths per fiber DWDM: 40 wavelengths per fiber All-optical multiplexing, no electrical interface All channels are completely independent Direction-, bit-rate- and protocol-transparent

Coarse WDM - 16 wavelengths per fiber CWDM in Flashlink since 2003 CWDM was standardized by ITU in 2003, therefore CWDM was introduced at this time in Flashlink

Dense WDM -40 wavelengths per fiber DWDM in Flashlink since 2000

Time Division Multiplexing (TDM) TDM in Flashlink since 2006 TDM is electrical multiplexing for given input formats 4x SD-SDI multiplexed and transported as HD-SDI Use HD infrastructure, routers, etc. Standardized in SMPTE 346M:2000

WDM+TDM A mix of TDM (electrical serial multiplexing) and WDM (optical parallel multiplexing) To utilise bandwidth of the fiber, each WDM channel can carry a multiplexed signal stream.

Wideband Optical Switches WOS-2x2L Protocol transparent Input select Can be used for fiber backup switching in combination with a wideband optical coupler
