A Journey from Rain to Drain Lesson 1-How to Be a Responsible Person PP1

1. When you agree to do something, do it! If you let people down, they’ll stop believing you. When you follow through on your commitments, people take you seriously.

2. Answer for your own actions. Don’t make excuses or blame others for what you do.

3. Take care of your own matters. Don’t rely on adults to remind you when you’re supposed to be somewhere or what you’re supposed to bring. You take the responsibility.

4. Be trustworthy. If someone trusts you to borrow or take care of something, take care of it. If somebody tells you something in confidence, keep it to yourself. It’s important for people to know they can count on you.

5. Always use your head. Think things through and use good judgment. When you use your head you make better choices. That shows your parents and teachers they can trust you.

6. Don’t put things off. When you have a job to do, do it!

TAKE YOUR TIME - Don’t get in a hurry TAKE YOUR TIME - Don’t get in a hurry. Take as much time as you need to see everything. LOOK AT THE AREA FROM DIFFERENT VIEWS - Move around until you have made all of your observations.

MAKE NOTE OF EVERYTHING YOU THINK “MIGHT” BE AN ISSUE -If you see something that just doesn’t look right, go ahead and make note of it. ALWAYS THINK OF SAFETY - There may be areas that your investigation leads you that may not be safe such as storm drains, overgrown creeks or hazardous chemical buildings.

A Journey from Rain to Drain Lesson 10-From Beginning to End-PP9

First Lesson –Understanding the basics of water-how much water covers the earth, different uses of water, etc. Understanding the basics of citizenship-what it means, what a responsible citizen looks like.

Second Lesson–Learning about the water cycle and the characteristics that make a hero.

Third Lesson–Understanding that our environment consists of watersheds and knowing what watershed we live in here in Bexar County. Learning that there are dilemmas we experience in life and that important decisions need to be made.

Fourth Lesson–That responsible citizens take action in their community.

Do you see any connection with all of these?

Why was it so important to understand these lessons before completing the last part of the program?

Did the program stop there?

How would you have felt if you never got to do an issue investigation or project?

What has been the best part of the project? Why?

What has been the hardest part of the project? Why?

What kinds of things do you wish you had done differently about this project?

What have you learned about yourself and your community by doing this project?

What is one thing you intend to do differently as a result of what you learned during your project?

How do you think you will be a better citizen and make the community a better place by what you learned during this program?
