CONCLUSIONS Smoking prevalence among Italian health staff is higher than the general population, especially among women: 33,3% (males 30,8% e females 34,9% while the prevalence among general population in 1997 was 33.1% and 17.3 %, respectively). The prevalence decreases with education (physicians total 24,7%; males 23,7%, females 27,5%; nurses total: 36,2%, males 36,6%, females 36,1%). A similar trend is observed indeed in the general population, but only among males..
