Retaining Volunteers The key to retaining volunteers is to make sure they are getting their particular complex of motivational needs met through their volunteer experience. If the volunteer experience makes the volunteers feel good, then they will continue to want to volunteer. A good environment is one which bolsters the volunteers self-esteem. When the work experience boosts a persons self esteem, that person feels good about the job looks forward to participating.
